Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack at the Congress Party, saying they were concerned only about the welfare of one family.
Addressing a farmers' rally here in the wake of the recent Minimum Support Price (MSP) hike, Prime Minister Modi alleged that the Congress only made fake promises in the last 70 years.
"In the last 70 years, the party on which our farmers placed their faith did not recognize their hard work. Only promises were made to farmers. They (Congress) made a lot of announcements about welfare in those years, but they were only worried about the welfare of one family. Farmers were made a vote bank," he said.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi noted that schemes implemented by his government were proof of their commitment towards farmers.
"The NDA government is striving for change. We came good on our 'One Rank, One Pension' promise and we also delivered on our promise of MSP hike. A host of other features were implemented, including the introduction of a Soil Health Card," he said.
On a related note, the Central Government had on July 4 approved the proposal to hike MSP by 50 per cent for 14 Kharif crops for the year 2018-19.
