Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Congress, saying the ruling party at the Centre remembers the poor only during elections.

Addressing a rally here, the Gujarat Chief Minister said: "For Congress, 365 days are April Fools day. They keep talking about the poor only before the elections and their leaders says poverty is a state of mind," he said."

Hitting at Congress's election manifesto, Modi said that it was a 'dhoka patra, and not a ghoshna parta.'

Asserting that India needs a strong and stable government, Modi said: "For 60 years you chose shasaks, now for a change choose a sevak. Give me 60 months and you will see the change."

Modi also slammed the governance of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and called on the people to defeat the Samajwadi Party, the BSP and the Congress in Bareilly.

Taking a jibe at Akhilesh, Modi said the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister couldn't even handle Gujarati lions.

"Uttar Pradesh CM was asking for lions. We gave it to him. We thought he would get some 'dum' (strength), but he couldn't handle Gujarati lions.
