Addressing the press conference today here, Congress leader Anand Sharma condemned Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's remark over writer's protest saying that his statement is perverse.
"He is targeting the eminent citizens of India who have made notable contribution for which they are celebrated nationally and globally. These writers believe in constitution, free expression and the fundamental rights. It was expected of the Government to listen what they are saying and to address the issues that have come up," he said in a press conference here.
He further said, "It is very clear that BJP Government remains true to its character and it is bent upon encouraging the forces which we can call as intolerant, divisive and have an agenda which will undermine the idea of republic in India."
Sharma said that Congress Party feels duty bound to stand up and ensure that the constitutional guarantees are upheld and ensure that current Government does not trample upon the freedom of our citizens.
