Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday lashed out at the Congress for politicizing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue, saying that the latter had not done anything expect making announcement on the issue just before elections.
"The Government of India has taken a historic decision yesterday about OROP, Congress is playing politics even on that. AK Antony is saying that the forces have been let down, you were Defence Minister, your government was there for 10 years, you have not done anything, expect making announcement on the eve of elections," Naidu told media here.
"After our government took over we studied the matter, Prime Minister himself took interest, Defence Minister and Finance Minister studied the matter and came to a conclusion that eight to ten thousand crores is required," he added.
Ex-servicemen protesting for the implementation of the OROP scheme called off their hunger strike earlier today, after receiving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reassurance on OROP but said they will continue with their agitation.
"We are happy to announce that we have called off the hunger strike. The Government should agree to VRS and the other four points. It's legal and justified. Agitation will continue," said chairman of Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) Major General (Retired) Satbir Singh.
