Dubbing the suspension of its six MPs as 'undemocratic', the Congress Party on Tuesday said the parliamentary democracy is under threat due to the present ruling dispensation.
"It shows that democracy is under threat. Parliamentary democracy is under threat due to this government. They do not respect principles of democracy. Many times, opposition parties do try to raise issues and democracy allows this. Suspending MPs is totally undemocratic," Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president Dinesh Gundurao told ANI.
After the Lok Sabha witnessed uproar during the zero hour, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan yesterday suspended six Congress MPs for five days citing unruly behavior.
Gundu Rai further opined that currently, the country is heading towards a hegemonic kind of a system.
"Today, this country, I think, is not a democratic country. We are heading towards a hegemonic kind of a system," he said.
The suspended MPs are Gourav Gogoi, K. Suresh, Adhiranjan Chowdhary, Ranjeet Ranjan, Sushmita Dev and MK Raghwan.
