The Congress on Monday announced G.K. Vasan's expulsion from the party and said that no resignation letter was given to anyone by the former union minister before announcing his intention to form a separate political party.
"Congress has expelled GK Vasan from the party today," said Congress leader Ajay Kumar.
Meanwhile, another Congress leader Mukul Vasnik said that an intention to form a different political party was announced without even giving a resignation letter.
"There was no resignation letter given to anyone at any level, and an intention to form a separate political party was announced. This is a reflection of the person," he said.
Earlier today, Vasan quit the quit the Congress citing conflict of interests and floated a new party.
B.S. Gnanadesikan, a loyalist of Vasan, had earlier last week tendered his resignation as the Tamil Nadu Congress chief, accusing the leadership in Delhi of failing to consult the state branch on important issues.
Tamil Nadu will go to polls in 2016.
