Union Parliamentary Affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said on Monday that the Congress Party is opposing the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) Amendment Bill just for the heck of it.
M. Venkaiah Naidu said, "It is good thing and we welcome it. Congress Party is opposing it just for the heck of it. Prime Minister has every right to choose the officer of his choice."
"As said by the Minister for Telecommunications, this is aimed at bringing parity with regard to different regulatory authorities. There is nothing unusual about it. The problems that were there earlier have been rectified. The house is in its favor," he added.
A bill to amend the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Act was passed in the Lok Sabha today.
The bill replaces an ordinance brought by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to facilitate the appointment of Nripendra Misra as the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A 1967 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, Mishra has served in many departments, including TRAI as its Chairman in 2006.
