Amidst speculations that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi might be elevated to the position of president at its ongoing Working Committee meeting, party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday refused to confirm or deny the move.
The Congress Working Committee is meeting to discuss many important issues. One of the issues that will be discussed is of the anti-farmer policies that the government has introduced, including the Land Acquisition Act," Surjewala told ANI.
Speaking about the possibility of the Gandhi scion being made part president, Surjewala stated that if and when such a move is made, members of the Congress would take the decision in a democratic manner.
"Rahul ji is a Congress leader and is someone that crores of Congress workers look up to. He is a symbol of the party. Having said that, if party president Sonia Gandhi and other party members decide to give Rahul ji a new post, we will let the media know," he said.
Earlier today, speculations were rife that the Congress would name Rahul Gandhi as the 'working' president of the party at its Working Committee meeting.
