The Congress Party on Wednesday cornered the Centre on the Land Acquisition Ordinance and began a 'Zameen Waapsi Aandolan' protest at the Jantar Mantar here highlighting that the government's move is anti-farmers.

"Yeh ek zameen waapsi aandolan hain, ghar waapsi sarkaar ke khilaaf. (This is a protest of bringing back the land against the government which campaigns for home coming)" said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

Ramesh said the bill, which took two years for a general consensus to emerge during the UPA rule, was brought back as an ordinance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre in two hours.

"In a democracy, land ordinance should be done democratically," he added.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Digvijay Singh, who was also present at the protest venue, alleged that the government has betrayed the farmers.

"The NDA Government is betraying the farmers, Modiji made many promises which haven't been fulfilled till date," he said.
