A Congress Party activist in Jammu and Kashmir, who is also the organising and publicity secretary of the party's state unit, has confirmed that he has filed a formal police complaint against unknown persons who reportedly circulated fake and hate tweets from an unverified Twitter handle in a bid to smear his reputation.
Salman Nizami told media here on Thursday that he has asked the state police (SDPO Jammu East) to identify these unknown persons.
Nizami informed that the SDPO's office has asked the cyber cell of the state police to acquire details of the fake subscribers for necessary action at its end. He said the complaint number was 10952-SDCE-J.
Nizami reiterated that he came to know of the fake and hate tweets being released in his name earlier this week, when he was attending to his pregnant sister at a hospital here.
He claimed that there are over 20 fake twitter accounts carrying his name, and the tweets going out in them have alleged that he is anti-Indian, which was absolutely untrue.
Nizami said that he had been a journalist before shifting to politics, and as is usual, had used the platform of media to give opinions on subjects of importance to the state and its people, besides issues of national significance.
He maintained that he has always stood for the integrity of nation and champions the cause of both secular and patriotic voices.
"My life is an open book. My good work and patriotic outlook is before everybody to see on TV and to be read in newspapers. I want the police to initiate corrective steps against the persons involved in damaging my reputation," he said.
