The Congress party on Saturday lashed out at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat after he pitched for anti-conversion law, saying such a medieval mindset should be removed from mainstream of the country's political ethos.
"The question is not of bringing 'bhatke hue' people back. The question is of isolating and alienating such medieval and fundamentalist mindset from mainstream of India's political ethos," said Congress leader Manish Tewari.
Another Congress leader and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid on his part said that the country believed in convergence not conversion.
"We all like convergence but not conversion. Conversion means you do not trust the other person," he said.
Congress leader Sanjay Jha commenting on the issue questioned the ideology of both the RSS and BJP.
"The BJP and RSS do not speak anything in the Parliament. The freedom to follow a particular religion is in the Constitution. They are working against making Christmas a holiday, they are working together to make India a 'Hindu Rashtra'. The question is does the BJP even respect secularism," he asked.
