Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday said that the Congress Party respects the decisions of the voters' of Delhi, and thanked the people of the national capital for giving her party the chance to administer the city for 15 years.
Addressing a press conference here, Dikshit, who refused to take any questions on the Congress defeat said: "The people of Delhi have taken a decision which we respect. We thank the people of Delhi for having supported the Congress for 15 years. I would also like to thank the media for all their support. We respect the verdict. An analysis will be done later on what went right, what went wrong."
Dikshit had earlier forwarded her resignation to the Lt. Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, finally accepting that her Congress Party has lost the assembly polls in the national capital.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to be in the lead in the polls and is more or less certain of returning to power in Delhi after 15 years.
The BJP is currently leading in 31 seats, while the AAP is leading in 24. The Congress is down to an eight seat lead.
