The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) on Wednesday staged a protest against the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the controversy regarding the alleged fake degree submitted by Jitender Singh Tomar and the delay in the appointment of a Lokayukta in the city.
"Why is a Lokayukta not being appointed? There are already more than 400 complaints before the office of Lokpal and there is no Lokayukta in Delhi. He (Arvind Kejriwal) wants to protect his MLAs and ministers, that is why it seems he is not appointing the Lokayukta in Delhi," said Ajay Maken.
"Have you heard any criminal say he has not committed a crime. How can a minister accept the position of a Law Minister when he has a fake law degree? How can you defend a person who is holding two fake degrees?" he added.
Tomar had tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal late on Tuesday.
His arrest has come as a big jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party Government, which has in turn fired salvos at the Delhi Police and the Central Government for acting in an 'undemocratic' way.
Last month, the Bar Council of Delhi had sought a police inquiry into the minister's fake law degree case.
The police inquiry was ordered after Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar, from where Tomar claims he has done law, informed the Delhi High Court that his degree was 'fake'.
