Congress workers lead nation-wide protests over suspension of MPs

Congress workers have taken to the streets across the country today against the suspension of the party's 25 lawmakers from the Lok Sabha.

Party workers led agitations in Lucknow, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, besides Srinagar and Kolkata.

The Grand Old party has boycotted Parliamentary proceedings and its leaders, led by party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, sat outside the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises today.

The Congress lawmakers were also joined by other political parties to protest against Speaker Sumitra Mahajan's decision to suspend 25 Congress MPs for five days for stalling parliamentary proceedings.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament has remained deadlocked with the opposition led by the Congress demanding resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
