The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's highest policy making body, is likely to meet on Tuesday to take a decision on the formation of a separate state of Telangana.

According to The Hindu, the UPA Coordination Committee will first meet at around 4 p.m. This will be followed by a meeting of the CWC at 5.30 p.m.

The meetings are being called on the eve of the conclusion of the Panchayat polls in Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress leadership is said to be in favour of bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, notwithstanding the opposition from within the party and its state leadership.

While the UPA meeting is an attempt to secure a stamp of approval of the constituents of the ruling alliance, the Congress Working Committee meeting is to take a final call after it gets the sense about the stand of the allies on the issue.

Senior Congress leaders from Andhra Pradesh have warned the party's central leadership about the many problems that could follow once the decision to create a separate Telangana state is taken.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS), whcih has been at the forefront of the demand for a separate state, has said that it is opposed to the idea of creating a Rayala-Telangana state, and has reiterated its demand for a Telangana state consisting of ten districts and Hyderabad as its capital.
