Leaders of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) from western Odisha met party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday, requesting him to contest the election from their region.

"Leaders, farmers, women, students from western Odisha want me to seek election from their area. I am considering it very seriously," the Chief Minister said.

Patnaik is a four-time MLA from Hinjili constituency. He defeated Sibaram Patra of Congress by over 76,000 votes in the last election.

In 2014 assembly elections, BJD registered a landslide victory and won 117 seats out of 147 with a vote share of over 45 per cent. Congress and BJP bagged only 16 and 10 seats respectively.

The 147 assembly constituencies of Odisha will go to polls in four phases starting April 11 along with the Lok Sabha elections.
