Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday criticized the opposition parties for disrupting the proceedings in the Parliament, saying their demand to call Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussion on the issue of religious conversions is uncalled for as the matter pertains to Home Ministry.
"Unfortunately they are not interested in discussions; they are only interested in disruption, that is why they are creating lot of problems. We have told even earlier that we are open for discussion on any matter," Naqvi told media persons here.
"Although, it was agreed that the discussion on the issue of religious conversions will be held on 17th, we were ready for discussions even today. Then they came up with their second demand that the Prime Minister should be called. The discussion on the issue of religious conversion is related to Home Ministry and Home Minister Rajnath Singh was present in the Parliament," he added.
Last week, around 200 people were reportedly converted to Hinduism in a ceremony in Agra by groups linked to the BJP's ideological mentor RSS.
The issue had led to an uproar in the Parliament by the opposition parties who demanded an explanation from the government.
