Croatia has become the 28th member of the European Union.
President Ivo Josipovic described the event as historic, as Croatia is EU's first addition since Bulgaria and Romania joined in 2007.
People took to streets to celebrate and rejoiced at the central square of Zagreb, with fireworks and music, including Beethoven's Ode to Joy, the European anthem.
According to the BBC, it comes almost two decades after Croatia's brutal war of independence.
