In a bid to encourage black African players, the Board of Directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) has given orders to franchises to field at least three black African players in all competitions.

As per the latest ruling, teams playing in all semi-professional matches would be required to field at least six players of colour and a minimum of three black African players.

Reflecting on the decision, Haroon Lorgat, the CSA chief executive, said that there remains a need to unlock the vast cricket talent among the majority of their people, adding that they fully recognize the need to transform so that they could maintain their competitive edge and be relevant to the society in which we live, Sport24 reported.

Lorgat insisted that the Affiliate and Franchise Presidents, CEOs and their coaches have the direct responsibility to increase the pool of black players, adding that their previous initiatives have shown success, and they are committed to achieve representivity for all their people and remain the best team in the world.
