A five-day painting exhibition and cultural exchange programme between India and Bangladesh was organised in Tripura, with the aim of improving relations between the two nations through people-to-people contact.

The event was inaugurated by Bangladesh Member of Parliament Ziaul Haque Mridha, with Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Prafullajit Sinha and Tripura Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar also in attendance.

Mridha said that such events will help in strengthening the bonds between the two countries and will pave the way for socio-economic development.

"There may be various misunderstanding between India and Bangladesh, but if there is a people-to-people contact amongst us, it strengthens the fraternity between us. It also helps in the development of non-fundamental thoughts and both nations will get inspired for socio-economic development," he said.

Organised by the Bharat Bangla Maitri Kalikaccha Sammilani, which is a socio-cultural group consisting of people who originally belong to the famous Kalikaccha village of Brahmanbaria in the erstwhile East Pakistan, the programme had the works of renowned painter Prabhat Chandra Sen on display. A colourful cultural program by artists of Tripura and Bangladesh was also organised.
