Apple is reportedly going to provide customers with credit for their iPhone exchange through the company's recently announced trade-in programme.

Apple spokeswoman said that the trade-in programme, apart from helping support the environment will also provide customers with credit for their returned phone which they can use towards the purchase of their new iPhone.

According to Fox News, Apple's much awaited trade-in programme is an extension of the company's already running Apple Recycling service which allows customers mail in their old gadgets for gift cards or credit and the latest addition will allow them to trade-in their old iPhones.

In the trade-in programme which has kick started in the US, the company's store employee would evaluate each iPhone to determine the condition of the device to issue the return credit of up to 280 dollars.

The report said that the trade-in credit can only be used towards the purchase of a new iPhone, unlike its competitors like eBay and Gazelle which also have trade-in programmes with third party companies.
