Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been given a year's extension after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) passed a resolution to this effect on Tuesday.
Election for post of Congress President was postponed for one year during the meet. The election will now be held next year, in effect giving Sonia Gandhi one year's extension.
The CWC also passed three other resolutions. Firstly, they have decided on uniform membership for all wings. Secondly, Congress President's term has been reduced to three years. And finally, all organisational elections will be deferred by an year.
The CWC also decided to reserve 50% of the party's posts for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and women.
