The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Monday unanimously supported the view that Rahul Gandhi should take over as president of the party.
"Congress Working Committee (CWC) was of view that Rahul Gandhi must take over presidency of the Congress party. It's high time the Congress mobilises all forces to fight against the dictatorial rule of the Modi government," said former Union Minister A.K. Anthony.
Antony said this was the first time such a sentiment had been expressed so strongly added that a final decision would be taken by party president Sonia Gandhi.
Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, "Rahul Gandhi has said that he wants to fight for idea of India and whatever the Congress party and the committee will decide, he'll b ready to take up any challenge."
Surjewala also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the Centre has actually diluted the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme introduced by the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi chaired today's crucial CWC meeting, as party president Sonia Gandhi skipped it citing poor health.
