Cyclone Hudhud: Centre to give assistance to Andhra, Odisha for restoration of tourist spots

The Centre on Friday announced that it would provide special assistance to the cyclone-hit states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for the restoration of Government tourist facilities after the two states suffered extensive damage in the storm.

Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Shripad Naik announced a special financial package for the restoration and reconstruction of the affected government-run facilities in the two states. Naik also confirmed that this financial support will exlusive of the assistance provided for rebuilding infrastructure in the states.

In this regard, the Minister has written to the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha governments, asking them to assess the extent of damage caused to their tourist assets and submit a detailed report on the same.

Cyclone Hudhud left the two states heavily damaged, with Vishakhapatnam in particular suffering heavy damage to its infrastructure, while an estimated one lakh houses were destroyed in Odisha.
