Cyclone Kyant: IMD issues warning to fishermen

With the Cyclonic storm Kyant, formed by deep depression, getting intensified over the east central Bay of Bengal and slowly moving towards west-southwest, the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued fresh warnings to fishermen asking them not to venture into sea along and off

Andhra Pradesh coasts from October 27 onwards.

The IMD officials said Kyant, which is forming over Bay of Bengal, is now hovering over east-central bay at 630 km toward southeast of Vishakhapatnam and 830 km towards northeast of Machilipatnam, and likely to reach south wards Nellore region towards the south coastal AP region in the next 4-5 days.

"On October 29, the south coast of Andhra Pradesh is likely to experience heavy rainfall in one or two places and many places there are likely to be a light to modest rain in the region," IMD official Nagarathna told ANI.

Meanwhile, the Indian Navy guarding at the south-east coast has sounded alert to the cyclonic storm.

Taking precautionary measures, the Navy has placed ships ready with divers, doctors, inflatable rubber boats, integral helicopters and relief material for over 5000 personnel.

"Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to prevail along and off south Odisha on October 27 and along and off Andhra Pradesh coasts from 27 to 30. Sea condition will be rough to very rough along & off south Odisha on 27th and along and off Andhra Pradesh coasts during 27th to 30th October 2016," read the official statement.
