David Letterman has announced that he will be retiring from CBS' 'Late Show' sometime in 2015.
While taping his program, USA's longest running late-night talk show host said that he had talked about retiring in the past with the president and CEO of CBS Corporation, Leslie Moonves, and just before the taping he called him up and told him about his decision to retire, CBS News reported.
The veteran star thanked the network, his colleagues and his family for their support.
Meanwhile, Moonves said in a statement that for 21 years, Letterman has graced their network's air in late night with wit, gravitas and brilliance unique in the history of their medium.
Moonves added that it's been a privilege to get to know Letterman, who has managed to keep many celebs, politicians and executives on their toes, and to enjoy a terrific relationship and it's going to be tough to say goodbye.
