Australian Test opener David Warner has been signed up to try his hand as a commentator during the Ryobi one-day tournament by Channel nine.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Warner and NSW teammate Steve O'Keefe have been picked by Channel Nine, which is showing the competition on high-definition channel GEM, to join the network's commentary team on matches the Blues are not involved in during the next month.

Never shy about expressing his point of view on and off the ground, Warner has, on occasion, landed in hot water as a result, the report said.

The most notable example was when he took to social media in May to attack journalists, furious that a photograph of him was used in a newspaper article about corruption in the Indian Premier League, the report added.

Nine's executive produce Brad McNamara said that Warner has always offered to be wired up during Twenty20 internationals and things like that, always being very honest and candid with his opinions.
