Salman Khan was sentenced yesterday by a Sessions Court to five years in jail, but managed to get 2-day interim bail within hours from the Bombay High Court. A fresh bail hearing is scheduled for Friday.
The Bollywood superstar is certain to file an appeal, but it is not yet clear whether the court will grant it to him or whether he will begin to serve some part of his prison sentence immediately.
The 49-year-old actor, who has appeared in nearly 100 Hindi-language films, was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his SUV into the American bakery in Mumbai, killing one person and injuring four others.
At one point, the Bollywood star's driver took the blame for the accident, although the judge refused to believe his testimony. The judge determined that the actor was solely responsible for the deadly incident.
