AB de Villiers of South Africa and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka will be battling out for the coveted No 1 batting spot in the ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsman in the upcoming first quarterfinal World Cup clash in Sydney on Wednesday.

South African swashbuckling skipper De Villiers began the year leading Sangakkara by 76 ratings points, but will only be leading by 38 points when the two players' sides take on each other on Wednesday.

Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Sangakkara, who has been in a scintillating form after becoming the first batsman to score four centuries in a row in the World Cup tournament, gained three places to sit at second spot with 861 points, Sport24 reported.

Meanwhile, Hashim Amla of South Africa and Indian star batsman Virat Kohli aren't too far behind the top two batsmen.

While Amla is third with 14 points behind Sangakkara, Kohli is fourth, trailing four points behind the South African opener.
