The surgery to remove a plate in the left hand of South African ODI captain AB de Villiers has reportedly been concluded successfully.

De Villiers fractured his hand during the IPL in 2011 after which he had a plate inserted to assist with recovery, although the plate had started to cause discomfort and needed to be surgically removed.

According to Sport24, De Villiers will start with light rehabilitation on Monday and is on track to be ready for the upcoming tour against Australia in February.

South Africa will play three Tests and three Twenty20 internationals against Australia, with the first test starting in Pretoria on Feb 12, and both teams are in good form after South Africa won a two-match series against India 1-0 last month and Australia completed a one-sided 5-0 triumph over England in the Ashes.
