With four more deaths, the toll at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics hospital, known as the Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack has now mounted to 47.
Meanwhile, a four-member team of the Union Health Ministry took stock of the situation at Sishu Bhavan on Saturday in the wake of the rising toll in infant deaths since 20th of this month.
The team led by Additional Secretary in the Union Health Ministry Arun Panda, made a detailed assessment of the infrastructure deficiencies. The team will submit a report to the Centre on how to improve the facilities.
Odisha Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said that the state government is taking all steps to ensure better services in the hospital.
As per the health department report, as many as 3,869 infants have died in OPD, while 2,034 have died in ICU in the last five years from 2010-11 to 2014-15.
