The death toll in Monday's suicide car explosion in Afghanistan's Wardak province has climbed to 24, said provincial public health officials on Tuesday.
The explosion occurred at around 7 am (local time) at Maidan Shahr, capital of the province, close to a base where Afghan special forces are stationed, TOLO news quoted provincial Governor Rahman Mangal as saying.
However, the death toll given by health officials is also disputed as a provincial council member has claimed the number of casualties and wounded is more than 50.
Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has also condemned the 'terrorist attack' and expressed his condolences. He also ordered an investigation in the Taliban-mediated attack.
Over the past a few years, the Taliban routinely carried out suicide attacks in remote parts of the country, targetting both Afghan and foreign troops.
