Manchester City suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on Monday night, leaving a big dent on the defending champions' hopes of retaining the Premier League title.

Glenn Murray put Palace ahead in the 34th minute before Jason Puncheon doubled the lead with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box shortly after the first-half, the BBC reported.

Though veteran midfielder Yaya Toure pulled one back for City, it was not sufficient for the Manuel Pellegrini's side to secure crucial points on the league table.

Following the defeat, City are fourth in the table with 61 points, nine points behind pace-setter Chelsea, and are also below Arsenal and Manchester United.
