The chief of the Delhi unit of the BJP, Satish Upadhyay, on Wednesday lashed out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal for objecting to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's move to invite the single-largest party to form the government in Delhi, and alleged that the latter was now seeking a backdoor entry to power.

Reacting to Kejriwal's demand of asking the Lieutenant Governor to withdraw the letter sent by him to President Pranab Mukherjee, Upadhyay said it would be better if Kejriwal stays out of all of the latest developments related to government formation in Delhi.

"Is it Kejriwal's job to dictate the government, the administration, the LG and the people? When he was given a chance to form the government, he ran away because he was unable to handle it. Now, he should stay out of it and sit at home," said Upadhyay.

"Whoever wants to form the government, let them do it, what is his problem? Why is he seeking a backdoor entry now?" he added.

The Delhi BJP chief further said that his party is answerable to the people of Delhi and not to Kejriwal.

"Whether to invite us to form the government or not is the prerogative of the LG, why is Kejriwal worried over that?" he asked.

On Tuesday, Kejriwal met Lieutenant Governor Jung and asked him to withdraw his letter to President Pranab Mukherjee recommending that the BJP, as the single largest party, should be invited to form the government in Delhi.

According to reports, the former Delhi chief minister also gave the Lieutenant Governor a CD of the sting operation which showed that BJP leader Sher Singh Dagar was attempting to bribe the AAP MLAs.

The Supreme Court had earlier on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the case on formation of government in Delhi till October 10.

The apex court had earlier asked the Centre to take a decision on holding fresh elections in Delhi following a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party asking for the dissolution of the assembly and fresh polls.

Delhi has been under President's rule since Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister on February 14 after being in office for 49 days.

The BJP won 31 seats in the 70-member house while the AAP emerged victorious in 28 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year.
