Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said that the confrontation between the offices of the Lt. Governor and the chief minister should be resolved with understanding and negotiation in the interest of the people. She said the stand-off was 'hurting' the residents of the city.

"The Delhi administration has to carry on because it is hurting people. People do not know where to go. There is also a misunderstanding between the current government and the bureaucracy. It is a situation where there is a confrontation on all sides. No government can work with confrontation, it has to work with understanding and negotiation in the interest of the people," Dikshit told ANI.

"I don't think it is nice, I don't think it befits the dignity of both of these offices, the elected office and the office of the LG," she added.

The Ministry of Home Ministry (MHA) had earlier in the day issued a notification to clarify distribution of powers between the Lieutenant Governor's office and the office of the Delhi chief minister, saying the former has primacy in postings and transfers of officers belonging to Central services.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, however, said the notification on power sharing in the administration of the capital city was indicative of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) nervousness about the Aam Aadmi Party's anti-corruption efforts.

His deputy Manish Sisodia also criticised the notification, terming it as an attempt to "save the transfer-posting industry being run in Delhi".
