Delhi Police bringing in 3D radars and speed guns to tackle road offenders

Traffic offenders be ware! The Delhi Police will be deploying speed guns and 3D radars to check violations like over-speeding and tackle road offenders.

In a bid to tackle the offenders on Delhi roads, the police has planned a techno-revolution of its Traffic wing.

The Delhi Police is planning to bring in various technologies like 3D radar-based Red light violation detection system to tackle the over speeding on the roads of the national capital. The system would approximately cost around Rs. 20 crore.

According to a recent data released by the Delhi Police during its annual press conference, the cases of over speeding have increased approximately 2.4 per cent from 1,34,301 cases in 2017 to 1,37,565 cases in the year 2018.

Among other advancements, the Police are planning to equip the Dhaula Kuan to Sarai Kale Khan stretch with Red Light Violation Detectors (RLVD) and speed cameras on the 10 signalized junctions of the stretch. This advancement would cost around Rs. 15 crore.

Furthermore, portable tripod mounted radar (speed guns) with a cost of about Rs. 5.5 crores would be equipped by the traffic wing to control the over-speeding bikers. The e-challan system will also be implemented soon with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC).

The number of death due to road accidents increased in 2018 with around 1604 people losing their lives in around 6274 road accidents that took place this year. In 2017, 1510 deaths took place due to road accidents.

The Traffic Police informed that it issued challans worth Rs. 105.99 crores, while in 2017 challans worth Rs. 98.56 crores were issued. 11,63,438 challans were cut for parking while more than 37,000 challans were cut for drunken driving.
