The Delhi Police has denied permission to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government's 'Car-Free Day' event, which was planned to be held on October 22.

In his letter to Chief Secretary K.K. Sharma, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said that the Delhi Government did not hold prior consultation with the police before taking a decision in this regard.

Bassi also said the choice of the event date, which falls on Dussehra, seems to be hasty and impractical.

He said the Delhi Police, being the primary agency responsible for regulation of traffic in the city, is the first stakeholder in any such event, which has a direct impact on the smooth flow of traffic. Bassi added that the police needs to be consulted before organizing such an event.

Transport Minister Gopal Rai has said that the ego of politics should not come in the way of 'Car-Free Day' as it aims at encouraging the people to use public transport and reduce pollution level to make Delhi's air clean.

'Car-Free Day' has been planned by the AAP Government to be held on the stretch between the Red Fort and India Gate.
