Congress leader Ajay Maken on Tuesday took moral responsibility for his party's dismal show in the Delhi Assembly polls and tendered his resignation as the AICC general secretary.
Maken also congratulated Arvind Kejriwal for the Aam Aadmi Party's victory in the elections.
"I have decided to tender my resignation from post of AICC general secretary as a moral responsibility," Maken told mediapersons here.
"I hope he (Kejriwal) will fulfil the promises he has made to the people," he added.
The AAP is inching closer to government formation in Delhi with the party leading in 65 seats. The BJP is ahead in four seats while the Congress is trailing in all the 70 assembly seats.
The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes. Counting is taking place at 14 centres in nine districts of the national capital.

A voter turnout of 67.08 percent was recorded in the polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
A total of 673 candidates are in the fray this time.
