Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi, who lost from the Krishna Nagar constituency, on Tuesday thanked the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership for reposing faith in her, congratulated Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and hoped that he fulfils the promises made to the people.
"I want to begin by thanking BJP leadership which inspired me to join and take up the CM candidature. I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. They have done extremely well, full marks to him. I am confident that now Arvind's team and leadership will provide all facilities they have promised to urban poor of Delhi," said Bedi.
"The party didn't ask for any money from me. They accepted me the way I am. I am thankful for all the respect and love I've received by party and leadership," she added.
"I conducted many road shows in Delhi. I received respect and acceptance by the people. I'm thankful to all of them. People used to stay up till 12 a.m. just to wave at me. It doesn't matter if you voted for me or not. I'm thankful for respect I was given," she added.
In a major setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, the AAP won the elections with 66 of the 70 assembly seats up for grabs.
The BJP, which was relying heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and had also brought in former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as its chief ministerial candidate to counter Kejriwal, managed to secure just three seats.
The Congress, which had ruled the national capital for 15 years up to 2013 and was trying to rebuild its lost ground in Delhi, lost in all seats.
