Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday said that MNS chief Raj Thackeray was free to contest in elections as enshrined in a democracy.
In a democracy everyone is free and can form a party and run for elections. We cannot say anything about another party's decision. As far as Maharashtra is concerned we are going to fight along with our ally Shiv Sena," Naqvi said.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday made a major announcement by declaring his intention to contest in the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled to be held later this year.
He also said that if his party (MNS) wins the Assembly polls then he will go on to become the chief minister of the state.
It is a first in the history of sorts where someone from the Thackeray family is contesting elections.
According to media reports Maharashtra is slated to hold Assembly elections this October to elect a new 288 member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
