Denis Do's debut animated feature, 'Funan' grabbed the top prize at the Annecy Animation Festival.
Depicting the life under Cambodia's brutal Khmer Rouge regime, 'Funan' is the story of one family that lived through years of separation, starvation and forced labour while they tried to maintain a semblance of hope.
Also, French actors Berenice Bejo and Louis Garrel lend their voices for the same.
Nora Twomey's 'The Breadwinner' won the jury prize, confirmed The Hollywood Reporter.
'The Breadwinner' is an Irish-made epic about a childhood in Afghanistan.
The festival also handed out a series of special prizes with 'The Breadwinner' taking the best original music prize and the Andre-Martin award for a French feature to 'The Big Bad Fox' and 'Other Tales'.
In the TV and commissioned film section, the top prize went to 'Everything in Black' and 'White from Mateus de Paula Santos', while the jury prize went to 'Happy by Alice Saey'.
