Devotees in Mumbai city participated in the event of 'Dahi Handi' on Sunday to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.

'Dahi Handi' (curd pot) is an event welcoming the birth of Krishna. As per the ritual, people form a human pyramid and a person climbs it to break the decorated clay pot, filled with curd, hanging from a rope.

The event is an impressive display of strength and agility. Participants prepare for months for this occasion.

"We are fully charged up. We have been practicing it from the past two months and today is our final task. Though the government has fixed timings for our celebration but we are planning to exceed the time limit and enjoy to the fullest. And we will do the same next year also," said a participant, Amit.

The state government of Maharashtra had recently declared the activity an adventure sport.
