Dhaka tribunal to deliver verdict against Jamaat leader Azharul Islam

A tribunal in Dhaka has concluded hearing arguments in a war crimes case against Jamaat leader A T M Azharul Islam and is expected to deliver its verdict soon.

Azharul Islam, 62, who is the Jamaat-e-Islami's assistant secretary general, faces six charges, including murder, genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971, reports the Daily Star.

Allegedly, he was the Al-Badr commander of Rangpur and the former president of Rangpur district unit of the Islami Chhatra Sangha, the then student wing of the Jamaat.
