Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday launched a scathing attack on Congress and asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did much more development in last 15 years than Congress could do in 54 years since independence.

Addressing an election rally in Rewa, Shivraj said, "It has been 70 years since independence. Out of these 70 years, Congress ran the government for 54 years and now I have been running the government for 15 years. However, the amount of development work that we did in these 15 years was never done by Congress ever. We have developed the state of Madhya Pradesh. BJP government is continuously indulged in the work of public welfare and development."

He further claimed that Congress is angry with him because he has done tremendous work for public welfare.

Shivraj said, "Congress people are angry with me because during their government there were broken roads but we created a network of excellent roads and highways. We provided electricity connections to the poor. For irrigation purposes and drinking water different schemes were launched by our government."

He also took a dig at Congress President Rahul Gandhi and said, "Now a day's Congress is showcasing a lot of love for farmers. Delhi's Rahul Gandhi talks of farmers wherever he goes, however, he won't even know how wheat is sowed. They talk about big things. If someone asks Rahul Gandhi to bring a piece of the moon, he will promise to do it in 10 days after elections."

The 230-Madhya Pradesh Assembly will go to polls on November 28 and the counting of votes will be held on December 11.

The assembly elections in the state are being seen as a direct political battle between the BJP and the Congress. While Chouhan is eyeing to secure his fourth consecutive term as the chief minister of the state, the Congress party is looking to regain the power after 2003.
