Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday apologized for upsetting Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan by banging his placard on her table, stating that he didn't intend on disrespecting the Chair.
"Since the assembly has started, Congress party has been agitating a lot in the Parliament. Today as well we agitated. You all know about our demand. Media has been reporting the disruption," Chowdhury told ANI.
"Today, after Zero Hour and 377, it was time for legislative business, where important bill was supposed to be passed in the presence of law minister. Especially, important topics like schedule cast and schedule tribe was going to be discussed," he added.
"We were trying to tell that when the House is not in order, law shouldn't be passed as it is a very important law. But while telling this we did something wrong which upset the speaker, but my intention was not to disrespect the chair and will never be," Chowdhury stated.
"But still, whatever she has decided, I have accepted that. I have expressed my apology for hurting her. I am very sorry," he added.
Chowdhury's action prompted the angry Mahajan to abruptly adjourned the House for an hour.
