The Nationalist Congress Party of India on Saturday predicted Uttar Pradesh's continued support for the Samajwadi party-Congress alliance.
"Who is to win or lose only time can tell, but the popular wind seems to be swaying in the direction of SP-cong alliance." NCP leader Tariq Anwar told ANI.
Anwar added that since Uttar Pradesh is a big state, it is difficult to presume the results before hand, but the updates suggest an inclination in Akhilesh's favour.
"Making assumptions for a state that big is a bit far-fetched. Uttar Pradesh is divided in three large constituencies, western Uttar Pradesh, central Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. But as per the news that is coming in, Akhilesh could be winning the assembly polls this time," he added.
Voting in Uttar Pradesh will be done in seven phases - February 11, 15, 19, 23, 27, March 4 and 8. The counting of votes will take place on March 11.
The election process will be held in 73 assembly constituencies spread across 15 districts of the state.
The most populous state of the country will today vote for 839 candidates at 26,823 polling stations.
