Noted film director Sudhir Mishra said on Sunday that the digital space was a wonderful medium because one could work without bothering about censorship.

"Most of the digital content is being watched on the smartphone. The digital space is wonderful because it allows you to have that little cloud of self-censorship in your head also disappear, so you work freely," the National Film Award winning filmmaker said here.

Mishra was speaking in a panel discussion on the topic 'Digital Space: The Future Ahead' at International Film Festival of India.

Eminent filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, Amazon Prime Video's India Content Director Vijay Subramaniam, ALT Digital CEO Nachiket Pantvaidya, Applause Entertainment CEO Sameer Nair and Filmmaker Karan Anshuman were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the relevance of the Digital Space and the opportunities the online medium provides, renowned director Shekhar Kapur said, "Someone met me outside the auditorium and asked me how to become a filmmaker. So, I asked him if he is able to shoot the movie on his phone, edit it on the computer, and upload it on You Tube, he said yes. The question is do you want to be an iconic filmmaker or a filmmaker."

He also pointed out that there was a huge technology shift and Netflix and Amazon were emerging as the new gatekeepers.

"Digital is the way by which you can do home delivery for cinema. You can order at home and enjoy it in a different atmosphere," Nachiket Pantvaidya added.
