Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Saturday welcomed External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's proposed visit to Pakistan, saying better ties between the two Asian neighbours is not possible without dialogue.

"I am happy to hear that India's Foreign Minister is going to Pakistan. Congress has always said that India should have good relations with its neighbours and good relations are not possible without discussion. We must improve trade with our neighbours and join hands to fight terrorism," Singh told ANI.

According to reports, Swaraj will travel to Islamabad on December 8 to attend the Heart of Asia security conference. She will be accompanied by Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif had met briefly in Paris on November 30. Both leaders warmly held hands before sitting down for a chat amidst frosty ties between the two neighbouring nations.

The duo had earlier met in Russian city of Ufa and agreed that their National Security Advisors (NSA) would meet.

The NSA-level talks were, however, called-off by Pakistan earlier this year.
