Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed an impressive ton and claimed three wickets as they inflicted a crushing 87- run defeat on the visitors to clinch the seven match ODI series 5-2 in Colombo.

Opener Dilshan marked his 300th one-day international by amassing a staggering 101 runs, which was further assisted by Dinesh Chandimal and Thisara Perera, scoring 55 and 54 respectively to help the hosts set a target of 302 in the final match, the BBC reported.

Chasing an imposing target, England were bowled out for 215 with four overs remaining unused. Joe Root was the only saving grace for the visitors as he hit a stunning 80 despite an ankle injury.

Commenting on the doubts regarding his captaincy, skipper Alastair Cook stated that he would feel very wrong to walk away from it, adding that he would be very disappointed if it was taken away from him and would certainly not give it up.

England lost 11 matches in their previous 15 completed ODIs, with a triangular series against India and Australia only left to be played before the World Cup starts in February.
