Narrating the incredible tale behind the motive of Snapdeal employee Dipti Sarna's abductor, the Ghaziabad police revealed that he had stalked her 150 times in a year as he was obsessively infatuated with her.
"The main culprit's name is Devender and he already has a criminal track record. Two others from his village named Pradeep and Mohit were also involved. He had two other associates in this operation named Saeem and Majid," Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh briefed the media here about cracking the case.
Asserting that since the case has been registered on February 10th the police was worried about something untoward happening to Dipti, Singh said that the police was baffled by the fact that there had been no ransom calls.
"When the victim was rescued, she was unharmed. She was definitely mentally traumatised but not physically assault. We were perplexed behind the motive of the kidnapping. She was even kept safe and well-fed by her abductors," Singh said.
Delving into the background of Devender, he added that the former saw Dipti for the first time on January 15th at the Rajiv Chowk metro station in Delhi and his infatuation with her began at that moment.
"It was at that point where he decided that he wanted her for himself. In one year he recced her 150 times. He kept a track of what she was wearing, who she was with and where she lived. But he never interacted with her. He purchased two autos knowing that she took a rickshaw to go home from Vaishali," Singh said.
Devender convinced his accomplices to go through with the kidnapping without telling them the motive. He told his gang that that she hands her hands on 'hawala money' and they could get access to that through her, the SSP said.

He added that throughout the ordeal which lasted for almost 30 hours, Devender kept Dipti safe and assured her that no harm will come to her.
"He tried to portray himself as a hero to her and show his friends in a negative light. He kept telling Dipti that she was safe but asked her to break all ties with her friend, with whom he knew that she had a close relationship," Singh said.
Talking in detail about the motive of the abduction, the SSP said that Devender's infatuation with Dipti was 'crazy and one-sided' and that he was not concerned about the consequences of his actions. He had even made plans to marry Dipti and live in Nepal.
"Upon interrogation we learned that was inspired by Adolf Hitler and Genghis Khan as he had read their books when he was in prison. He said that he related to Shah Rukh Khan's character in Darr," Singh said.
He added that the most significant evidence about Devender's intentions towards Dipti was that when he left her at the railway station on February 12th, he asked her 'if she saw him as a friend or an enemy.'
Five people have been arrested in the case and a Swift car and an i10 which was used during the abduction has also been recovered.
Devender was arrested today morning at 6 am.
